Conversation Logging

The systematic recording of every AI-generated message with full provenance — including the model that generated it, the prompt used, the context provided, and the governance verdict applied — before delivery.

What It Means

Key Insight

You can't govern what you can't see. Conversation logging is the foundation every other governance control depends on.

Conversation logging captures the complete lifecycle of every AI-generated communication: the input prompt, the model version, any retrieved context (RAG sources), the generated output, the governance verdict (approved, needs fix, or blocked), reviewer actions, and final delivery status. Unlike simple message archiving, conversation logging captures provenance — the full chain of how and why a message was created, reviewed, and delivered. This creates an immutable record that satisfies regulatory requirements for communications supervision, enables root cause analysis when issues arise, and provides the evidence trail auditors need.

Why It Matters

Regulators increasingly require organizations to demonstrate supervision of AI-generated communications. FINRA, HIPAA, and emerging AI governance frameworks all require evidence that AI outputs are monitored, reviewed, and controlled. Without conversation logging, you cannot demonstrate governance — you're relying on trust, not evidence. Conversation logging turns 'we review our AI' from a claim into a provable fact.
